The new composite wing of the import-substituted MC-21-310 aircraft improves the liner's flight qualities compared to its direct competitors in its class – the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. This was stated by Mikhail Pogosyan, former head of the Sukhoi design bureau, which created the first version of the SSJ-100.
He called the MC-21-310 a key project being implemented in the field of civil aviation in the country.
Unlike analogues such as the Airbus A320, Boeing 737, it features a fully composite wing, which significantly improves its aerodynamic characteristics.
Anatoly Gaidansky, Director of the Yakovlev Engineering Center, noted that the MC-21 is planned to be made 15-20% lighter, for which Russian engineers are using thermoplastic composites.
This approach will significantly improve the liner's fuel efficiency and operational characteristics.
