To acquire several MS-21 aircraft, Udmurtia will have to spend a quarter of the region's annual budget. Therefore, the regional company Izhavia was decided to be privatized with a subsequent sale in order to attract investment, Governor Alexander Brechalov explained.
According to him, continuing operations with three Yak-40s and two Boeing aircraft is a doubtful prospect, while purchasing new domestic airliners will "cost a pretty penny".
MS-21 — we have an application for these aircraft. But then 30 billion rubles will be needed from the budget — that is a quarter of the entire annual budget.
According to open-source data, Udmurtia's 2026 budget provides for 125.2 billion rubles in tax and non-tax revenues; 25% of that is about 30 billion rubles.
One MS-21 aircraft costs slightly more than 7 billion rubles, therefore Udmurtia plans to purchase four new airliners.
