Failure of "Moskvich 5": Production Curtailed, Remaining Cars to Be Scrapped or Recycled

The model did not meet the plant's expectations due to low consumer qualities

Product and consumer properties manager of JSC MAZ "Moskvich," Svetlana Novitskaya, announced in an interview with "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" the termination of the "Moskvich 5" project. The model, based on the Chinese Sehol X6 / JAC JS5, was decided not to be developed after testing.

We tested the model and realized that it was not exactly what we would like to offer; the consumer properties did not meet our expectations, so we closed the project. The number produced is the number that will remain. As for the few cars produced, they can be further sold. Either they will be disposed of, or they can be released to the secondary market, as the cars are certified.

Previously, the plant released several hundred of these cars. They were equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 136 or 174 hp, paired with a CVT. The cars have already been spotted at dealerships.

Novitskaya said that two parallel lines will coexist—based on Chinese MG and JAC. According to her, "Moskvich 3" will definitely remain in production.
