Scandal at the Tu-160 "White Swan" plant: contractor on trial over the theft of 148 million rubles

A supplier to the Kazan Aviation Plant is seeking acquittal in the case

At the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan, closing arguments have begun in the case concerning the theft of more than 148 million rubles during the reconstruction of workshops at the Kazan Aviation Plant, where Tu-160 "White Swan" strategic bombers are produced. Deputy director of OOO "Stroitelnaya kompaniya," Evgeny Polovkin, insists he was not involved in the fraud.

The court is considering the case four years after the start of the proceedings. The prosecution has requested six years in a general-regime penal colony for Polovkin and a fine of 500,000 rubles, accusing him of fraud on an especially large scale.

According to the investigation, Polovkin's company took part in the reconstruction of workshops at the Kazan Aviation Plant as a subcontractor for PAO "Tupolev." The work was part of a state contract worth 1.8 billion rubles.

Law enforcement officers found that the defendant purchased construction materials at inflated prices and appropriated the difference. The prosecution also claims that some of the materials were used in the construction of a private house.

The defense emphasizes that the investigation did not name specific firms used to cash out funds and did not provide precise calculations of the damage, while Polovkin was not responsible for the company's financial operations. According to the defense, the enterprise carried out additional work worth 89 million rubles beyond the recorded volumes.
