60 Fully Autonomous Lastochka Trains Planned for Launch on the Moscow Central Circle After 2029

A Total of 139 Trains in Russia Will Be Equipped with Automation Level УА3

After 2029, it is planned to introduce 60 fully autonomous Lastochka electric trains on the Moscow Central Circle. This follows from materials presented at an exhibition on the sidelines of a meeting on the development of autonomous transport with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the period 2026–2029, it is planned to equip 139 Lastochka trains with the УА3 automation system (autonomy level 3). At this stage, the driver remains in the cabin, monitors the movement, and can intervene in the control at any time. Fully unmanned trains of level УА4 will appear later — after 2029.

The first Lastochka electric train with the third level of autonomy was launched on the MCC in August 2025. In Russia, this is one of the first experiences in implementing electric trains with partial autonomy; a similar approach is already being used in the Moscow Metro with the unmanned Moskva-2026 train.
