Negotiations with potential buyers of Tu-214 aircraft have progressed, and there are preliminary agreements. This was stated by the Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov.
There are a number of, shall we say, agreements on the Tu-214. I hope that we will come to some result — we are aiming for the first quarter of next year. We hope that this agreement will take place and will be transformed into a real, действующий contract.
The updated Tu-214 has already received approval for making key changes to the design and has successfully passed certification tests, during which imported equipment was replaced with domestic analogues. A total of 17 systems were modernized. For example, the weather radar and collision avoidance system, which were previously manufactured by Honeywell, are now being developed in St. Petersburg.
Alikhanov noted that Russia will be able to offer aviation systems developed in the country on the international stage, while the priority will be to meet the needs of domestic aircraft.
The Tu-214 flying laboratory aircraft made its first flight in November 2024 after being modified as part of import substitution. Subsequently, aircraft designers conducted refinement flights.
