The traffic police have launched mass inspections of drivers throughout Russia on the eve of the New Year holidays. The raids are aimed at reducing the likelihood of road accidents: inspectors check compliance with traffic rules, especially regarding the sobriety of drivers.
In Bashkiria, the "Sober Driver" campaign is taking place from December 26 to January 12. The local traffic police report that the purpose of the raid is to prevent traffic violations related to drunk driving.
As part of this event, mass inspections of drivers will be carried out to identify signs of intoxication with the involvement of the maximum number of personnel in the places where festive events and mass celebrations are held.
In the Sverdlovsk region, in Nizhny Tagil and the Gorno-Uralsky district, the "Safe Road" campaign will be held from December 27 to 31. The traffic police clarify that traffic inspectors plan to "totally" check cars, suppressing gross violations. Inspectors include drunk driving, driving without a license, and driving into the oncoming lane.
Daily driver checks have been announced in the Voronezh region in the run-up to the holidays.
As part of these events, additional traffic police crews will be involved in each district of the city and region, who will patrol in places where citizens gather en masse during holiday and corporate events.
In the Ulyanovsk region, a raid to identify drunk drivers is taking place from December 26 to 28, similar checks are also regularly carried out in the Smolensk region.
In the Tula region, raids are planned every Friday and weekend. Increased checks are also expected in the Moscow region, Samara, Tambov, Tver, Murmansk, Bryansk regions and other regions. In Moscow, raids will start a few days before the New Year and will continue throughout all the holidays.
