Unmanned Control System for Dontech Tractor Being Created at Moscow Polytech

Navigation with accuracy up to 10 cm and computer vision ensure autonomous operation in the fields

Moscow Polytechnic University, in collaboration with Don State Technical University (DSTU) and Rostselmash, is creating an unmanned control system for the Dontech hybrid tractor. The goal is to launch mass production in 2027 with a plan to produce 150 machines by 2028.

The system includes:

  • a computer and control board that controls the gas, brake, steering wheel, and other actuators;
  • RTK navigation for precise positioning (up to 10 cm);
  • computer vision with 360° surround-view cameras for obstacle detection;
  • a remote control system and automated control.

The tractor is capable of operating around the clock, which increases productivity by 1.5–2 times compared to conventional machinery. High navigation accuracy allows for careful field cultivation and reduces the time spent on repeated operations.

Safety systems include emergency shutdown in case of loss of communication or block failure, as well as collision avoidance. Tests with mounted equipment were carried out in an experimental field.

The next stage of the project is to replace the internal combustion engine with an electric motor with a battery, which will improve operating time and recharge speed. The tractor is planned to be used for field cultivation, harvesting, and fodder preparation.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the "Priority 2030" program and the federal project "Advanced Engineering Schools". In 2026, tests are planned for 100 hours of continuous operation to confirm the reliability of all components.
