Revolutionary Method for Repairing SaM146 Engine Blades Proposed in Russia

The author of the dry electropolishing method project received 200,000 rubles from Rostec

The Rostec State Corporation has awarded the authors of projects in the "Future of Aviation — 2025" engineering works competition. Young scientists presented ideas that could benefit the industry right now.

One of the most pressing issues in the industry is the expiring airworthiness of SaM146 engines on Superjets and their restoration. Third place in the competition was taken by the project "Development of a repair technology for removing a defective protective coating from the lock of a working fan blade of the SaM146 engine", prepared by specialists from UEC-UMPO. The project received a prize of 200,000 rubles.

The key objective of the proposed solution is to preserve the quality of the surface layer of the part using the latest method of dry electropolishing.

As a reminder, the blade lock is a high-precision component in the power plant. The dry method allows removing the defective coating, for example, worn anti-friction or protective coating, without changing the shape and dimensions of the element itself, which is critical for the safe operation of the entire SaM146 unit.

The first place in the competition was taken by the work of a group of employees from the branch of PJSC UAC — Operational-Tactical Aviation Sukhoi Design Bureau and FSUE "Russian Federal Nuclear Center — All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics".

Their work "Development and implementation into the design process of a method for thermal calculations for thin-walled heating elements, taking into account the optimization of computational resources in the Simintech and LOGOS software packages for promising aviation technology objects" received a prize of 500,000 rubles.

Second place went to the development of design engineers from JSC "Ilyushin Aviation Complex" — "Removable pourable aviation system for the needs of operational firefighting". The contestants presented a scientific and technical reserve for the subsequent implementation of the idea and received 300,000 rubles.
