The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has completed another stage of engineering tests of the PD-8 engine for the SSJ-100. The tests took place at the UEC-Saturn stand in Rybinsk and included simulating the destruction of a fan blade, the corporation's press service said.
Rostec recalled that such tests are mandatory as part of certification flight tests.
The blade must not break through the engine casing in the event of such a critical situation during flight. This guarantees the integrity of the aircraft fuselage, the possibility of a successful landing and the safety of passengers.
During the tests, the blade was destroyed by detonating a pyrotechnic charge when the engine reached take-off mode. The state corporation stated that the design of the unit retained all the elements, and no violations of the integrity of the casing were detected.
The PD-8 engine continues to undergo a complex of bench and flight tests, confirming the correctness of design solutions and the characteristics specified in the technical specifications, Rostec concluded.
Prior to that, information appeared on the Web that the PD-8has not yet reached the thrust for flights with a full cabin.
