During its operation, the autonomous transport has proven its reliability and safety

The first unmanned tram "Lvov-Moscow", launched in Moscow in early September, has traveled more than 18 thousand km and carried about 40 thousand passengers. During this time, the autonomous transport has never violated traffic rules, the press service of the Moscow Department of Transport reported.

The tram runs on route No. 10 "Shchukinskaya Metro Station - Kulakova Street" in the Strogino district. It works standard 8-hour shifts.

The unmanned tram can:

  • stop, open/close doors
  • follow traffic lights, let pedestrians pass
  • switch arrows
  • stick to the schedule

According to legal requirements, an employee of the tram management is in the cabin. He makes sure that the autonomous system is working properly.

The head of the Moscow Department of Transport, Maxim Liksutov, said that the capital's development has proven its safety, reliability and stability. The authorities plan to launch another 15 unmanned trams by the end of 2026. In the next 5 years, 2/3 of the capital's tram fleet will consist of autonomous transport, the official concluded.
