The state-owned Cuban airline Cubana de Aviación has officially returned one of its wide-body Il-96 airliners to service. The aircraft with registration number CU-T1250 flew to Havana from Minsk, where it underwent a major overhaul.
The airliner was built for the Cuban carrier in the late 2000s. In total, Cubana has four Il-96s at its disposal, but only this aircraft is currently in service.
The company's fleet consists of four types of aircraft — Russian Il-96 and Tu-204, Ukrainian An-158 and Franco-Italian ATR-42/72.
The rest are idle due to a lack of spare parts, fuel and technical support — a consequence of the tough US sanctions that effectively block Cuba from foreign trade and service chains.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Kazan Aviation Plant will increase capacity for mass production of aircraft.
