Russian military deploys BMP-1 with "post-apocalyptic" armor in battle

The fighting vehicle received a welded "barbecue grill", steel sheets, and drone protection

A new example of "makeshift" armored vehicles has appeared at the disposal of the Russian military. Soldiers reinforced the BMP-1 by hanging additional steel sheets and protective screens on it, and photos of the vehicle appeared on social networks.

In the photo, you can barely see the original shape of the vehicle: the hull is covered with large sheets of metal, and a lattice structure is welded above the turret and stern, which the military calls a "barbecue grill".

Rubber screens were installed at the bottom, and fabric camouflage nets were installed at the top. This strengthening of armor protection should reduce vulnerability to kamikaze drone strikes and damage from the upper hemisphere, the main threat to light armored vehicles in modern warfare.

It should be noted that the standard armor of the BMP-1 is capable of protecting the crew only from small arms bullets and shrapnel. The addition of steel sheets and grilles turns it into a kind of "hybrid" between an armored personnel carrier and a light tank, a cheap and quick solution that has already proven its effectiveness.

Earlier www1.ru reported that an unusual and cheap weapon was found against drones.
