A new example of "makeshift" armored vehicles has appeared at the disposal of the Russian military. Soldiers reinforced the BMP-1, covering it with additional sheets of steel and protective screens; photos of the vehicle have appeared on social networks.
In the photo, the original shape of the vehicle can hardly be seen: the hull is covered with large sheets of metal, and a lattice structure, which the military calls a "barbecue," is welded above the turret and stern.
Rubber screens were installed at the bottom, and fabric camouflage nets at the top. This enhanced armor protection should reduce vulnerability to kamikaze drone strikes and damage from the upper hemisphere, the main threat to light armored vehicles in modern warfare.
It should be noted that the standard armor of the BMP-1 can only protect the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel. The addition of steel sheets and grilles turns it into a kind of "hybrid" between an armored personnel carrier and a light tank, a cheap and quick solution that has already proven its effectiveness.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that an unusual and cheap weapon was found against drones.
