New Su-34ME for Algeria Puzzled by Mysterious Module Under the Nose

Likely, it is an improved targeting or defense system that is not available on Russian Su-34s

On fresh photos of the newest export Su-34ME for the Algerian Air Force, an unusual device was noticed under the nose. In shape, it resembles either a new optoelectronic system (OES) or an onboard defense system (BKO).

Military experts did not rule out that a foreign customer could have asked to refine the aircraft to meet their requirements.

Probably, the standard Platan targeting laser system did not fully satisfy the Algerians, and the engineers decided to install something more advanced. In any case, there is no such module on Russian versions.

The media reported that Algeria ordered at least 14 Su-34ME bombers from Russia. Against this background, the production of Su-34 at the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant named after Valery Chkalov increased approximately twofold.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that modified T-90S tanks were spotted at exercises abroad.
