Sinara – Transport Machines (STM) has received a grant of 500 million rubles for the creation of the TEM885 shunting and transfer diesel locomotive. This information was confirmed by the Governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha.
The development of the new locomotive was announced in the summer of 2025. The release of a pilot sample is scheduled for 2027.
The TEM885 will receive a new generation DM-185 diesel engine with a capacity of 2000 hp (1471 kW) and a traction force in continuous mode of 400 kN. This eight-axle locomotive (4о-4о) will become an evolution of the TEM7A model and an alternative to the TEM14.
The diesel locomotive will be modernized to meet the needs of the Russian Railways company. The locomotive will receive remote control, obstacle detection and video surveillance systems.
TEM885 will also be launched on the general industrial market.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the new TE26 diesel locomotive will be presented at the exhibition in St. Petersburg.
