The Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (BMZ) has completed the assembly of the first model of the newest TE26 main-line single-unit diesel locomotive. This universal locomotive with two control cabs is designed for driving freight, mixed and passenger trains.
The design of the TE26 differs from the serial diesel locomotives produced at BMZ. Digital technologies were used in the development of the assembly technology. This made it possible to optimize technological processes using computer visualization.
The TE26 diesel locomotive is designed to replace the outdated M62, 2M62 and 3M62 models, which are operated throughout Russia. Locomotives of this class are usually used to transport goods and people over relatively short distances.
The diesel locomotive is equipped with a domestic 18-9 DGM-02 diesel engine with a capacity of 2850 kW with a new generation turbocharger. The TE26 is capable of performing a wide range of cargo operations (up to 7100 tons according to the multiple unit system). The declared service life of the locomotive is at least 40 years.
The design of the new locomotive uses more than 90% of domestic components. The assembly of the first diesel locomotive began in November 2024, and in the third quarter of 2025 it will be sent for testing.
Currently, the plant is also assembling the second TE26 diesel locomotive, which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter.
Earlier www1.ru reported that tests of the unmanned TEM23 diesel locomotive will start in the fall of 2025.
