The STM engineering holding has announced the development of a new TEM885 shunting and transfer locomotive. This was reported by the company's press service.
TEM885 is an evolution of the legendary TEM7A. In this model, we have retained all the best qualities of its predecessor – power, traction, practicality and reliability. But most importantly, we have supplemented it with the most modern technical solutions.
The locomotive will have a capacity of 2000 hp and a tractive effort of 400 kN. This eight-axle locomotive will be a significant addition to the existing line and will set new trends in Russian locomotive construction.
The project includes the creation of two modifications. One of them will be developed for Russian Railways. The model will be equipped with a control system with remote control functions. This will allow shunting operations to be carried out without the participation of a locomotive crew.
The second modification for industrial enterprises will not have remote control, since most of them do not have specialized marshalling yards. However, the locomotive can be equipped with an obstacle detection and video surveillance system.
At the initial design stage, the possibility of using a new DM-185 series power plant from the Ural Diesel-Motor Plant is being considered. The novelty also includes modern electrical equipment, a traction motor cooling system and a comfortable driver's cab. The microprocessor control system from Algorithm-S will ensure high efficiency and safety of the locomotive.
The pilot production of the TEM885 locomotive is scheduled for 2027 at the Lyudinovo Locomotive Plant.
Earlier www1.ru reported that tests of the unmanned TEM23 locomotive will start in the fall of 2025.
