The vessel "Artur Chilingarov" with tail number RA-76503 arrived in Antarctica via Cape Town, South Africa.

On board were 18 tons of necessary scientific equipment, medicines, and supplies for the Indian Antarctic research stations Bharati and Maitri.

A few days ago, information appeared in the media that India leased an Il-76 for the first time to deliver tools needed by scientists to Antarctica.

It is worth noting that the Il-76 is ideally suited for operation in Antarctica due to its high payload capacity, ability to land on ice runways, and increased flight range. The aircraft is capable of carrying up to 60 tons of cargo, depending on the modification.

India has been conducting scientific research in Antarctica since 1981, but until now has sent both research teams and equipment on ships, often leased from other countries.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian tires for the chassis of MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft have successfully passed certification.
