A Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane of the Rossiya airline, operating a flight from St. Petersburg to Murmansk, is returning to the departure airport to perform an emergency landing. According to preliminary data, the aircraft's nose landing gear does not retract after takeoff.
The crew decides not to continue the flight along the route and returns to Pulkovo. The plane circles over the Gulf of Finland to burn fuel and reduce landing weight. This standard procedure increases safety when landing in an emergency.
According to information from the online scoreboard of Pulkovo Airport, flight FV 6343, which departed on schedule at 9:10, is currently listed as delayed. The schedule indicates an estimated arrival time of 13:10.
Representatives of the air carrier and the airport do not comment on the details of the incident until all procedures are completed. There are passengers and a regular crew on board. Airport services are putting emergency rescue units on alert in accordance with the protocol for special cases.
