Быстрее в десятки раз: квантовые сенсоры увеличат точность обнаружения нефти

The method is based on detecting the slightest anomalies in Earth's gravitational field

In Russia, quantum sensors are being developed that will allow for a tens of times increase in the accuracy of determining mineral resources underground. A project roadmap is currently being developed, under which unique, more compact, faster, and environmentally friendly devices will be created.

Such devices, for example, can bring great benefits in geological exploration: the sensitivity of quantum sensors will allow detecting the slightest anomalies in Earth's gravitational field, by which the presence of mineral resources in such places can be determined. The accuracy of determining oil underground can increase tens of times.
Sergey Kulik, Scientific Director of the Center for Quantum Technologies at Moscow State University, Professor of the Faculty of Physics

According to the scientist, scientific projects dedicated to quantum sensors are already being implemented in Russia. There are several promising developments—up to ten different types of such devices at various stages of readiness can be counted, which will prove useful.

Quantum sensors can also be used in navigation, logistics, medicine, and materials synthesis.
