Tanks with a gas turbine engine based on the T-80 have successfully passed tests in Arctic conditions, and now serial production of such vehicles has been established. This was announced by Alexander Potapov, head of the Uralvagonzavod concern (part of Rostec).
The fact is that gas turbine tanks, in addition to the current situation, are also good in the Arctic zone. And we must understand for ourselves that our state is large, the territory is large. Therefore, a vehicle based on the T-80 chassis is extremely necessary and extremely in demand. Therefore, it will be produced and is already being produced.
Thanks to its unique power plant, the T-80 tank demonstrates excellent acceleration and high speed on snowy terrain and frozen ground, which is critical in Arctic conditions. The gas turbine design ensures reliable engine start-up in extremely low temperatures, unlike diesel counterparts, which may experience difficulties starting in such conditions.
Moreover, the heat generated by the gas turbine engine is effectively used to heat the crew and maintain an optimal temperature inside the tank, which significantly increases the comfort and efficiency of military personnel in harsh climates. This advantage is especially important during long operations in Arctic conditions, where hypothermia can quickly lead to a decrease in combat effectiveness.
