The Khabarovsk Shipbuilding Plant will become the property of the Khabarovsk Territory, the head of the region, Dmitry Demeshin, announced on August 20. The decision to withdraw the enterprise from the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) was agreed upon at a meeting with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Denis Manturov.
According to Demeshin, the region will take control of the payment of wage arrears and the preservation of personnel. He emphasized the need to retain all specialists, from designers and technologists to turners and fitters.
Regional authorities expect to secure large orders for the enterprise. Negotiations are currently underway with the Pacific Fleet, and projects to update the passenger fleet and river infrastructure on the Amur are also being discussed.
The Khabarovsk Shipbuilding Plant has been operating since 1953 and specializes in the construction of sea and river vessels, boats, and hovercraft. The enterprise became part of USC in 2007.
