SSJ-100

SSJ-100 (Sukhoi Superjet 100) is a medium-range narrow-body passenger aircraft that initially used imported components. The airliner was developed by the "Sukhoi" company and is designed for medium-haul flights - from 3000 to 4500 km.

SSJ-100 became the first Russian airliner created after the collapse of the USSR, which should replace outdated models - Yak-42 Tu-134. But how does the new SJ-100 airliner differ from the classic SSJ-100?

SJ-100 is the same medium-range narrow-body passenger aircraft. However, although it looks like the classic Superjet SSJ-100 on the outside, inside it is a completely different machine.

Large-scale import substitution work began back in 2019. At first, the aircraft was called Sukhoi SuperJet 100 R, and then - SSJ NEW. And in July 2023, when the manufacturer changed to NPO "Yakovlev", a new name for the aircraft came out - SJ-100, that is, without the first S of "Sukhoi".

SJ-100 is a new Russian medium-range passenger aircraft, where every detail is made in Russia. In total, about 60 items of components had to be replaced. The total cost of the work is about 50 billion rubles, excluding engines. More than 30 domestic enterprises are working on the aircraft, and tens of thousands of people across the country are involved in the project.

What exactly was replaced?

For example, the interior of the passenger cabin is completely Russian: seats, plastic; equipment - chassis and brakes; windshields of the cockpit, its own PD-8 engines.

Also replaced aircraft systems - power supply, control, indication, signaling, radio communication, navigation, inertial systems, speed and altitude measurement system, fuel system, oxygen systems for the crew and passengers.

The SJ-100 has innovative wingtips that improve aerodynamics. The landing gear door has been increased - it affects the characteristics during takeoff and landing.

The new Superjet does not have a single detail from the previous version. Everything that is installed in it is new and made in Russia - a huge engineering work that specialists have done in just 6 years!
