Sber has updated its SberOS operating system, adding support for RISC-V. This is an open processor architecture that allows you to freely modify and use technologies without licensing restrictions. SberOS is being developed with an emphasis on security, reliability, and compatibility with modern equipment.
RISC-V support gives the operating system more flexibility. Now it can be run on processors with this architecture, which is important for the development of the Russian IT sector. Kirill Menshov, Senior Vice President of Sber, noted that this is a step towards technological sovereignty.
RISC-V differs from closed counterparts such as ARM and x86. The architecture does not require licenses, which simplifies the development of new solutions. The introduction of SberOS on RISC-V can accelerate the creation of domestic software and hardware.
