New BMD-4Ms with additional protection have been transferred to the regular units of the Russian army. Footage of the modernized vehicles appeared on the Web.
The hull sides of the airborne combat vehicles have been seriously reinforced by installing armored screens of a new shape that cover the chassis elements. Additional "overlays" are also visible in the front.
The protection of the commander's and gunner-operator's sights has been improved. The turret was shrouded in a special net designed to neutralize HEAT ammunition.
Similar devices are also available on the BTR-MD "Rakushka" airborne amphibious armored personnel carrier.
