На Ленинградской АЭС-2 забетонировали фундамент шахты реактора ВВЭР-1200 энергоблока №3

Next stage is the installation of the reactor vessel

The construction of the foundation slab for the reactor shaft of the under-construction Unit No. 3 with a VVER-1200 reactor has been completed at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2. This was reported by the press service of Rosatom State Corporation.

The nuclear reactor will be placed in the concrete shaft. One of the key passive safety systems, the "melt trap," will be installed under this reactor.

Specialists also plan to install elements in the shaft volume to secure the reactor vessel, and to install thermal and biological protection. Measuring channels and sensors for monitoring air temperature, structural concrete, equipment metal, and radiation will be placed inside the shaft. The inner surface of the shaft will be lined with metal for sealing and increased resistance to potential operational loads.

The reactor shaft will be fully prepared in two years, after which the installation of the reactor vessel will begin.

The core catcher is the first large-sized piece of equipment, weighing 158 tons, which will arrive at our site in the autumn and will be installed in the design position. The accuracy and quality of this key operation will be ensured by a universal heavy crawler crane equipped with advanced control and automation technologies. Given its significant lifting capacity (up to 2000 tons), we will use it in the next stages for the installation of the reactor vessel and other large-sized equipment at the unit's facilities.
