The foundation for the tallest structure in the region has begun to be reinforced at the construction site of the Leningrad NPP-2. This will be a cooling tower 179 meters high, second only to the Lakhta Center (462 meters) in St. Petersburg. This was reported by the press service of Rosenergoatom.
The cooling tower is needed to cool the turbine of power unit No. 3. It will ensure stable and safe operation of the VVER-1200 reactor.
Now the builders are laying tons of rebar and preparing concrete — strong, waterproof, as for the metro and dams. They work quickly: the concrete plant is nearby, the mixture is delivered without delays.
The pouring of the cooling tower will begin in 2026. Its construction will be monolithic, which will provide additional strength.
