Only 14 MC-21 airframes assembled: new aircraft not coming soon

Another nine aircraft are in earlier stages of production

The Irkutsk Aviation Plant has assembled 14 MC-21 airframes, with a backlog of another nine aircraft in earlier stages of production. In Komsomolsk-on-Amur, 23 serial SJ-100 aircraft are in various stages of readiness, according to Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

As domestic components are supplied and certification is completed, the aircraft will take to the skies and, after testing, be handed over to operators, he noted.

A revised comprehensive aviation industry development program will be available closer to the end of 2025. Accordingly, production plans will take into account the adopted adjustments.

At the same time, Alikhanov confirmed that Russia intends to gradually increase the production of SJ-100 and MC-21 aircraft to 20 and 36 per year, respectively, after their certification is completed, with the possibility of further increasing production if there is demand.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that import-substituted parts for the SJ-100 will become cheaper, although they used to cost twice as much as those for Airbus.
