The Kalashnikov concern (part of Rostec) will begin production of the modernized 7.62 mm AK-308 assault rifle after a series of qualification tests.
Initially, the AK-308 was developed on the basis of the AK-12 model of 2018 for delivery to countries whose armies use the 7.62x51 NATO (.308 Win) cartridge as the main ammunition for infantry small arms.
However, when using the AK-12 in a special operation, significant changes were made to its design. Therefore, on an initiative basis, employees of the Kalashnikov STC unified the design of circuit solutions in the AK-308. The new product has a lengthened forend - now, during firing, it provides a reliable and comfortable grip on the weapon with hands. The folding, adjustable AK-12 buttstock with a machine gun stop installed on it was borrowed.
The receiver cover with a long Picatinny rail allows the use of all modern sighting systems, including optical and night sights. Windows have appeared in the detachable magazine for visual monitoring of the number of cartridges.
The design of the diopter sight was also borrowed from the AK-12 model of 2023 - the flip-up rear sight with holes of different diameters provides convenience in aiming at various light levels.
