A UR-77 mine clearing rocket launcher, known as "Zmey Gorynych", with additional protection has been spotted among Russian troops.
The photo shows a self-propelled unit with slat screens covering the side of the hull. The vehicle also received a "mangal" over the launcher with mine clearing charges. These structures can protect the UR-77 from drones, which carry a large amount of explosives.
The unique UR-77 is designed to make passages in minefields in rear areas. The system works as follows: a special device fires a cord with a large amount of explosives.
Then, a rocket projectile pulls it out for several hundred meters of the area to be cleared, then a detonation occurs, and the mines detonate from the shock wave, creating safe corridors.
The unit on the tracked chassis of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer carries two mine clearing charges. One charge can make a passage in a minefield up to 6 m wide. The UZP-77 charge, 93 meters long, carries 725 kg of explosives.
Earlier www1.ru reported that new units will appear in the Russian Navy for the first time.
