Employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations continue to work on lifting and destroying ammunition from a German barge that sank off the coast of Baltiysk during the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the press service of the ministry.
An Il-76 aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations delivered divers from the Center and equipment for diving and deep-sea monitoring to the region.
The demining of the barge has been ongoing for six years. During this time, more than 70,000 deadly finds have been raised to the surface and destroyed, more than 20,500 in the past year alone. The ship was discovered in 2009 at a depth of 17 meters, torn into two parts. There are tens of thousands of explosive objects on board and in the surrounding area.
Demining operations will continue in the coming years until the territory is completely cleared of dangerous finds. Employees of the search and rescue team of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Kaliningrad Region, the Center of the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels, and the Nevsky Rescue Center took part in the demining and will continue to work on lifting and destroying ammunition that sank on board the barge.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the latest demining complex was developed for the military.
