The new medium-range aircraft MC-21 with Russian systems and components may replace foreign counterparts not only in Russia, but also in friendly countries, according to the press service of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).
MC-21 is a very reliable aircraft. I am confident that the new airliner will indeed compete with foreign counterparts and will be able to completely replace them not only in Russia, but also in countries friendly to it.
According to plans, mass production of the MC-21 with fully Russian components will begin in 2026. By this time, aviation experts expect to complete the replacement of all foreign components and pass the necessary certification.
On April 29, an MC-21 prototype successfully made its first flight from the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of the Yakovlev company (part of the UAC of the Rostec State Corporation). The flight lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. The aircraft reached a speed of 580 km/h and an altitude of 3 km. Domestic avionics, power supply and air conditioning systems were tested on board.
