Luxury is not affordable: Fines for teenagers on Whoosh and MTS Urent electric scooters skyrocket

Parents of scooter riders under 16 will be charged from 30,000 to 100,000 rubles for their child

Electric scooter rental services Whoosh and MTS Urent have tripled fines for minors riding electric scooters. Now, parents will have to pay a fine of 30,000 rubles for a child who decides to ride a scooter throughout Russia, except for Moscow, where the fine is 100,000 rubles.

Previously, companies fined 10,000 rubles for such a violation. The reason for the tightening of sanctions was statistics — teenagers under 16 turned out to be the most accident-prone category of users. Their trips often end in trouble due to numerous violations of traffic rules.

Teenagers violate the rules more often than adults, which leads to accidents and other unpleasant situations. Now parents will have to think carefully before allowing their children to ride rented electric scooters.

It is worth noting that the age limit of the services — 16 or 18 years — is stricter than in the Traffic Rules. According to the traffic rules, low-power personal mobility devices (SIM) can be driven from the age of 14.
