Средне-Невский судостроительный завод спустит уникальный тральщик «Полярный» проекта 12700 на воду

The launching ceremony of the new ship with a unique fiberglass hull will take place on Thursday

Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant will hold a ceremony on April 24 to launch the minesweeper "Polyarny" Project 12700, intended for the Northern Fleet. This is the tenth vessel in the "Alexandrite" series, developed by Russian engineers to detect and neutralize naval mines.

The main innovation of the project is a hull made of monolithic fiberglass, created by vacuum infusion. This technology, which has no world analogues, reduces the weight of the structure by 20% compared to metal analogues while increasing strength. The material eliminates corrosion, and its service life is unlimited with proper operation. These characteristics are critical for minesweepers operating in an aggressive marine environment.

The ship is named after the city of Polyarny, the former main base of the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War. Modern ships of Project 12700 are equipped with robotic systems, sonar stations, and non-contact trawls, allowing them to neutralize mines at depths of up to 100 meters without risk to the crew.
