The diesel-electric submarine "Volkhov" of Project 636.3, code "Varshavyanka," of the Pacific Fleet returned to its home base in Vladivostok after completing combat service tasks, the Ministry of Defense press service reported.

Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Viktor Liina received a report from the submarine commander, Captain 2nd Rank Vladimir Bakro, on the successful completion of the task and congratulated the sailors on their arrival at their home base.

The "Volkhov" crew performed tasks at sea for about 40 days, covering more than 2,000 nautical miles in a submerged position. After a short rest, the submarine crew will begin planned combat training tasks of the Pacific Fleet.

The Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine is designed to destroy surface ships and vessels, enemy submarines, patrol, guard, reconnaissance, and protect communications in the near sea zone.

The submarines have a length of 74 m, and a maximum displacement of more than 3.9 thousand tons. The strong hull provides the submarine with a working depth of 240 m and a maximum depth of 300 m, and a range of up to 7.5 thousand miles. The main armament of the submarines is the "Kalibr-PL" missile system.
