Gazprom's subsidiary, Gazprom Household Systems JSC, is preparing to restart the production of refrigerators and washing machines at the Bosch plants in Strelna. The plans include manufacturing appliances under the German brand, which experts believe is critical for gaining market share. However, legal risks remain: if sanctions are lifted, the assets may return to Bosch's control.
According to the reports of BSH Household Appliances LLC, which manages the plants, production is scheduled to begin in 2025. Currently, work is underway to set up equipment, select suppliers, and create test samples. The project's financial model is calculated until 2035, with a gradual increase in capacity. In 2024, the enterprises did not produce a single unit of equipment, and the staff was reduced from 635 to 369 people.
Experts note that success is possible only if the Bosch brand is used, which retains customer loyalty. Appliances under Gazprom's own brand may lose out in competition. However, localization will reduce logistics costs, which will provide a price advantage.
Formally, the plants still belong to Bosch, but their management has been transferred to Gazprom by presidential decree. The company may produce products under the Bosch brand, but if sanctions are lifted, the assets will return to German control. Additional difficulties are associated with the need to replace the software for robotic lines, the licenses for which have been revoked.
