The Sun staged a fireworks display of 39 flares, almost half of them class M

Solar activity reached level 4 on a 5-point scale, but the Earth is not threatened

From April 12 to April 13, 39 flares were recorded on the Sun. About half of them belong to class M, which corresponds to level 4 on a 5-point scale. One of the largest active centers, region No. 4055, has "woken up". This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI and ISZF.

For comparison, on April 11, only 10 flares were recorded, and only one of them belonged to the M-class. This led to a powerful magnetic storm that same evening. Despite the powerful flares, there was no threat to Earth, as the epicenter of the explosions was on the western edge of the Sun, which reduces the impact on Earth.

Astronomers note that the region that was active now was opposite the Earth at the beginning of last week and was "silent". This event can be considered significant, as the power of the flares continues to grow. On April 13 at 10 a.m. (Moscow time), a flare of level M4.3 was registered. Soon the active center will go to the back of the Sun and become invisible from Earth.

The most noticeable consequence of the flares will be magnetic storms of level G1-G2, which are expected on Wednesday, April 16. A magnetic storm can affect the operation of satellites and communication systems, so astronomers are closely monitoring the situation.
