UAC's idea reduced the fuel consumption of the "Superjet" SJ-100 by 4%: the aircraft became more economical

Winglets also improved the aircraft's flight performance

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) managed to reduce the fuel consumption of the "Superjet" SJ-100 aircraft by 4% thanks to a special horizontal winglet. This was announced by Vladimir Lavrov, Chief Designer of the Superjet program.

According to him, the idea with horizontal winglets began to develop a long time ago. UAC worked with various customers who operate aircraft in various conditions.

We wanted to improve flight performance. One of these measures was winglets, they have a special shape, which was verified in calculations and tests. The winglets confirmed their characteristics in terms of fuel economy, they allow achieving more than 4%. Therefore, all import-substituted aircraft come with them already in the basic configuration.

The first flight with PD-8 engines took place in Komsomolsk-on-Amur with a crew consisting of test pilots Igor Grevtsev, Dmitry Demenev and flight operator Maxim Gryukanov. The plane was in the air for about 40 minutes, reached a height of up to 3,000 m and a speed of 500 km/h.
