NSTU announces antenna array to counter UAVs

Engineers at Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI (NSTU NETI) presented a new development — an antenna array designed to improve the efficiency of electronic warfare (EW) systems, particularly against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The new system is capable of detecting and suppressing electronic warfare threats in a wide range of frequencies. The solution will be relevant in the context of the growing importance of EW technologies for protecting critical infrastructure.

The antenna will provide high accuracy and effectiveness in various frequency ranges. The main goal of the project is to increase the bandwidth of operating frequencies of antennas for EW systems while maintaining sufficient gain throughout the range. The team analyzed existing technologies, developed, and modeled an emitter that meets the requirements for operation in the range from 400 MHz to 6 GHz.

The prototype is made on a thin dielectric substrate of fiberglass laminate with a special pattern applied to the surface. The antenna design features a flat design, which greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of production compared to bulky counterparts.
