The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns: fraudsters can use your voice and face to withdraw money

Attackers pose as operators and collect biometric data via video call

Fraudsters have started using video calls to collect biometric data, including voice and facial images, in order to subsequently withdraw funds from bank accounts. This is reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to the agency, attackers may pose as mobile operators, offer services, conduct surveys, or test the quality of communication. During the conversation, they ask questions to make the person say keywords, such as "yes." The voice recording is then used to pass biometric identification in banks that have already implemented or are just beginning to implement such systems.

Experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs warn that fraudsters can use the obtained data to steal money by posing as a bank client. In this regard, citizens are urged to be careful when receiving calls from unfamiliar numbers. If it is not possible to avoid communication, it is recommended to monitor your speech, avoid key phrases, and not say "yes." The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises to immediately end the conversation in such cases.
