On March 7, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced the signing of a contract with Rosoboronexport for the purchase of V-92S2 tank diesel engines with a capacity of 1000 hp for installation during the modernization of T-72 tanks of the Indian Army. We are talking about power plants that were installed on T-90S tanks, specified at the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (Center AST).
The engines will be supplied both in finished form and in the form of kits for assembly and kits for licensed production.
V-92S2 engines manufactured by Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant - URALTRAK LLC (ChTZ) are installed on T-90S tanks supplied to India and manufactured under license by AVANI. Now, V-92S2 engines will be installed during the modernization of T-72M1 tanks of the Indian Army, which normally have V-46-6 engines with a capacity of 780 hp.
Operating characteristics of the V-92S2 engine:
- Engine power - 736 kW (1000 hp)
- Rotation speed - 2000 rpm
- Maximum torque - 3920 N.m.
- Torque margin - 25%
- Specific fuel consumption - 156 g/hp*h
- Number of cylinders - 12
- Engine life - 1200 h
