Lukashenko Waited for His "Oreshnik": Minsk Ratifies Security Treaty

The agreement allows the Russian Federation to create military bases on the territory of the republic

The lower house of the Belarusian parliament ratified on February 26 a bill on the treaty between the republic and Russia on security guarantees within the framework of the Union State.

Now the document must be approved by the upper house of parliament. Then it will be signed by the country's president, Alexander Lukashenko.

The agreement was signed in Minsk on December 6, 2024. The agreement is aimed at strengthening the security of Belarus and Russia within the common defense space of the Union State and consolidating mutual guarantees for the implementation of necessary measures in the event of encroachments on the security of either party.

In early February, the head of the Second CIS Countries Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, stated that the Oreshnik medium-range missile system will be deployed on the territory of Belarus after the signing of a security agreement between the countries.

According to the "Объясняем.рф" portal, the maximum range of the "Oreshnik" is 5,500 km, it can carry a warhead weighing up to 1.5 tons and reach speeds of up to 10 Mach (about 12,400 km/h). Putin emphasized that none of the existing missile defense systems is capable of shooting down the "Oreshnik".

Earlier www1.ru reported that the "Forpost-RU" drone will receive small-sized radars for guiding "Calibers" and loitering munitions.
