Google plans to allow advertisers to use the fingerprinting method, thus the company continues to increase control over users, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
Google plans to allow advertisers to use fingerprinting, a technology that identifies users' devices by analyzing their software and hardware. This method is seen as a replacement for third-party cookies for tracking online activity.
The deputy mentioned that the British regulator ICO believes that fingerprinting limits users' ability to control the processing of their data.
Nemkin emphasized that the use of fingerprinting shows that the company seeks to increase control over users, without paying due attention to privacy issues. Google has repeatedly been accused of illegally collecting data, and this technology is likely to become another tool in marketing strategies aimed at increasing profits, rather than protecting users' interests.
The deputy recalled that Google had previously warned about the risks associated with this technology. The company argued that it impairs transparency and limits user choice. Despite criticism and accusations of privacy violations, Google has changed its position. A class action lawsuit was even filed against the corporation, alleging that Google was tracking users in "incognito" mode in the Chrome browser.
Earlier www1.ru reported that from December 26, 2024, Google Play suspended payments to developers whose bank accounts are registered in Russia, indefinitely. Now, all attempts by users to purchase paid apps or subscriptions from such developers will be rejected.
