Protecting ship systems from hackers: Russia introduces new cybersecurity standards

This approach will prevent disruption of BEC navigation systems

Russia plans to introduce new cybersecurity standards to protect ship systems from hacker attacks. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

The new requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) apply to the composition and qualifications of personnel, as well as the technical equipment of enterprises. If all cybersecurity checks are passed, the vessel will be assigned the CYBER-A sign in the class symbol. This approach will generally improve the quality of cyber services provided.

The ministry noted that compliance with the new requirements is necessary to protect ships from external interference and prevent disruption of navigation systems. Autonomous vessels, such as unmanned boats (BEC), are controlled remotely, so ensuring cybersecurity is important for the smooth operation of maritime transport.

Earlier www1.ru reported that major Russian companies talked about the main cyber threats.
