Russians are being lured into fraudsters' networks in new ways. Now, on behalf of law enforcement officials, they are sending letters via messengers and email demanding that they appear in court, law enforcement, or tax authorities. These false summonses are accompanied by messages with links that need to be clicked under various pretexts. By clicking on these infected links, the victim gives attackers access to their device data, including passwords from banking applications.
To force the victim to click on the link, they are intimidated. For example, the message summons them to law enforcement or tax authorities in connection with alleged suspicion of complicity in a fictitious crime.
In addition, messages may come stating that a citizen has been selected to participate in a jury. At the same time, they promise administrative and criminal liability for non-appearance. To refuse this obligation, they also suggest clicking on the link in the summons to indicate the reasons for the impossibility of participating in the jury.
Under no circumstances should you click on such links. Also, according to this scheme, after receiving messages, the victim may start receiving calls in the messenger or in the usual way, posing as employees of various structures. However, the lawyer advises: it is better to hang up and call back the government agency mentioned by the interlocutors. This should be done by phone number listed on the official website.
