For a more effective fight against the low-visibility unmanned boats Magura-V5 in the Black Sea, it is necessary to abandon the tactics of countering with Kalashnikov machine gun fire from the Mi-8 helicopter. This was pointed out by military analyst Evgeny Damantsev.
He recalled that for effective work with the PKM, it is necessary to get closer to the BEC at a distance of up to 1.5 km. However, Magura-V5 are equipped with highly maneuverable R-73RMD-2 short-range air combat missiles with interference-protected IR seeker heads, which are quite capable of determining the IR signature of the exhaust of turboshaft engines against the background of fired IR traps and inflicting damage on the rotorcraft.
To counter BECs, it is necessary to use ударных FPV drones from the same Mi-8s from a distance of about 10-12 km with a Mi-8 flight echelon of about 50-100 m.
The analyst noted that multipurpose tactical Kh-39 LMUR missiles with a thermal imaging seeker and a command-telemetric channel from the Ka-52M and Mi-28NM pylons, or transonic tactical Kh-BPLA missiles based on the 9M133M-2 Kornet ATGM, are also suitable for eliminating BECs.
There is also the option of adapting the Lancet-3 kamikaze drone to the suspension units of Mi-28NM, Mi-35M and Mi-8AMTSh-VN helicopters, followed by integration into the weapons control system and their use against BECs based on targeting from the S350M Supercam UAV.
