Scammers Mimic "Gosuslugi" Hacking and Microloan Application to Extort Money

They force the victim to sell assets and transfer money to a "safe account"

A new type of fraud is gaining momentum in Russia: criminals mimic hacking an account on the public services portal and "issue" microloans. The goal is to cause panic in the victim and force them to transfer money to a supposedly safe account.

A fraudulent scheme is now gaining popularity, where attackers mimic the hacking of Gosuslugi and the subsequent collection of microloans in order to encourage the victim of the attack to panic and voluntarily begin selling assets and transferring money to a "safe account".

The specialist said that fraudsters begin to act as follows: they call a WhatsApp number on behalf of the "Social Fund" and offer to sign the victim up for a pension recalculation. Then they ask the victim for the code from MTS ID.

This is followed by a call supposedly from the public services support service. The message says that someone is trying to steal data, but they will help the victim. To gain trust, fraudsters offer the victim to record the conversation and contact the police.

In reality, attackers do not seek to gain access to public services and do not issue loans. This is confirmed by checking the credit history at the credit bureau - there were no attempts to apply for loans.

The purpose of this activity is to create the illusion that a person has become a victim of fraud, cause panic and force him to act under the influence of emotions.

Recently, criminals created another new method of stealing Telegram accounts. They send out fake job offers on behalf of well-known companies. Those who respond to these offers end up on a fraudulent website.
