On the evening of November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful testing by the military of the newest medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik." The editors of www1.ru have collected all the information currently available about this weapon.
The publication "Military Chronicle" noted that the missile's speed exceeds 12,000 km/h. It carries from three to six thermonuclear warheads with a capacity of 150 kilotons each.
The missile is also solid-fueled, accelerates faster, and reaches a height unattainable for air defense systems. The estimated flight time to Poland is 8 minutes, to Germany – 11 minutes, to Great Britain – 19 minutes.
Military correspondent Alexander Kots added that a mobile ground complex launches "Oreshnik" into the sky. The missile uses technologies of the RS-24 "Yars" ICBM. The complex is a further development of the RS-26 "Rubezh," he noted.
Little is also known about the RS-24 "Yars." There were several test launches in the 2010s, but in 2018 it became known that "Rubezh" was abandoned in favor of the hypersonic "Avangard." Whatever the new weapon is, Russia has not used it to its full potential.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the military had already used "Oreshnik" in non-nuclear hypersonic configuration. According to him, the missiles attack targets at a speed of 2-3 km per second, about 10 Mach.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that mass production of net-laying drones has been mastered in Russia, and field tests have already begun.
