Russia is exploring the possibility of creating a new gas corridor for supplies to China through the eastern regions of Kazakhstan. The capacity of this route could be up to 35 billion cubic meters of gas per year, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
Novak noted that the project is at an early stage of development: "So far, this is just an idea that is being discussed."
According to him, gas supplies from Russia to China are estimated at 40 billion cubic meters this year, including supplies of liquefied natural gas. In 2023, according to the Global Energy agency, China imported 159.1 billion cubic meters of gas, including LNG.
Gazprom has not yet commented on this topic.
Currently, most of the Russian gas is transported to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. In December, it is planned to reach a maximum capacity of 38 billion cubic meters.
In addition, the parties reached an agreement on the construction of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipeline with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the largest helium production plant in Russia was launched in the Irkutsk region. Its capacity is 7.5 million cubic meters of this gas per year. This production allows to cover the domestic helium deficit. However, given that Russia needs about 6 million cubic meters of gas per year, the surplus will be exported to China.
