The Indian company Bharat Dynamics Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with Rosoboronexport. New Delhi has expressed interest in purchasing the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun system (SAM system), Bulgarian Military reports.
India values the effectiveness of the Pantsir-S1 against a wide range of aerial threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, and missiles. The complex can simultaneously engage up to 4 targets.
According to Bulgarian Military, India "has been observing and analyzing for years" the operation of the SAM system in real combat conditions.
The memorandum of understanding marks a step forward, but falls short of the deal itself. Rather, it provides a basis for further discussions on technical specifications, delivery times, crew training and maintenance of the SAM system.
The agreement will likely include localization of production of the Pantsir-S1 or participation of Indian companies in it.
